My Russian behaves like this too. I reccommend that you buy a bridge-like rainbow-shaped hideout, with little separate logs joined so he can climb up it, because mine adores his. He climbs up it, and then lifts his arms and legs and slides all the way down into a soft pile of substrate and...
I want to get my Russian something nice for Christmas; as well as having some foods that he ususally can't have like rose and grated carrot. I have got him a lot of climbing things and sadly there isn't a market for tortoise toys, so I am looking for something edible. He doesn't really like any...
Hi,
My four year old Russian tortoise blinks the opposite way to humans. When we blink, our eyelids go down briefly and back up to the top of our eye, where they are based.
When he blinks, his eyes go up to the top of his eye and back down. His eyelids are, definitely, based at the bottom...
Hi,
Russian tortoises are great pets - I have one and he has a huge personality and is very small. Russians are very food obsessed and will come running up to you with tiny, shining pebbles of eyes. . . plus, they have the most incredible beautiful faces! If you get a Russian you will need to...
My adorable, clueless Russian does this too, all the time. Just make sure that, in your vivarium, you have lots of little objects i.e cuttlefish bones, wood hamster chews, food bowls etc.. This means that that when on his back, he can grab onto things and haul himself up quickly, so his organs...
Hi,
Maybe add South African Boerboel, Cane Corso, Dogo Argentino, Neopolitan Mastiff, Broholmer, Ca de Bou, Fila Brasiliero, Alano Espanol, Tosa Inu, Dogue de Bordeaux, Spanish Mastiff, Tibetan Mastiff, Rhodesian Ridgeback
Some of these dogs are quite unusual, but I thought I would add...
He has no problem eating - that I can say for sure! In the garden, Speedy has NO idea whatsoever what is poisonous or bad, he tries to eat everything. Once he half swallowed a big slug!
Hi,
As well as loving tortoises, I also have a huge passion for snails and, of course, my little Russian Dwarf Hamster.
Seraphina, my new baby Helix Aspersa
The Cepaea Hortensis I found yesterday. She has a damaged lip (shell lip), and is on intensive calcium supplements to build it...
Hi,
This is Speedy, my adorable four-year-old Russian
Asleep up his hideout! He also, when active, climbs it and slides down for fun repeatedly!
He is very unique looking, I think, with his underbite!
Hi,
I have a Photobucket account and have uploaded several photos, but only know how to display the link on posts. I see posts that have a long list of actual pics as opposed to links that you click on - how do I directly display photos from Photobucket onto posts?
Thanks
He has just gone to bed, and I will take some photos tomorrow. Do tortoises normally blink upside down - their eyelids coming up from the bottom and going back to the bottom of the eye? Or is it just him?
Hi,
My four year old Russian has, pretty much, an upside-down mouth structure. It's not just an underbite - the whole bottom jaw is just like what the top jaw should be. He is adorable, though!
He blinks upside down - and his eyelid goes to the base of his eye. They point, a little like...
On food, my Russian Tortoise eats a wide variety. Kale contains oxalic acid, which stops calcium being digested, so that should not be fed often. As for pepper ( I assume sweet), Russians cannot tolerate the acids and sugars in sweet fruits and veg - so that is probably a no in the long run...
Hi,
These pictures are of my adorable Russian, Speedy. He is four years old and very unique (from his underbite to his unusual habits!

Thanks - I am relieved. I was signing up and there was a massive button saying 'update to pro'. I had a look at it, and it said that without pro, you could only have five pictures per month and five pages (whatever that means, I haven't used my account yet). I plan to have about 150 pics, so was...
