Yes, but he did tell me to keep the humidity right and make sure she's hydrated. Like I implied, my vet said the pellets help prevent pyramiding. Not completely doing the job by itself.
A lot of vets and pet store employees don't know that much about tortoises, that's why I go on a 5 hour car...
Yeah, I do my best to keep care of humidity and hydration, but the pellets were recommended by my vet to prevent the pyramiding from getting any worse.
You can buy these pellets here: http://www.petsmart.com/reptile/food/zoo-med-trade-natural-grassland-tortoise-food-zid36-4050/cat-36-catid-500004
You put 1-2 in water for 30 seconds until they're mushy. Then put them on your tortoises food and mix them in. My tort doesn't like the taste but when...
No, your tort looks great! Mine has pyramided. The previous owner lost interest and because of that, torty is forever lumpy but that's ok. She isn't getting worse because I keep the humidity levels nice for her and give her anti-pyramiding pellets.
Just take good care of your tortoise's shell...
Ok thank you. Yeah Torty hasn't flipped for a while. I recently just put smaller "slides" in her tank just because she seemed bored. She hasn't been anywhere near flipping and someone is usually home incase she does.
Hi I want to see some of the CUTEST pictures of Hermann's tortoises. For my little Lord Voldetort they're these two. The first one is her yawning (also my profile picture) and the second one is of her climbing on her wooden "slide" :):D
Help! I need to increase the humidity in my tort's enclosure. I live in Canada where we have very long, cold, and dry winters.
What plants can I use that are ok for her to eat but still give off moisture?
Thank you!
You could soak 2-4 times a week, AND use grassland tortoise food pellets on the food. You just take 1-2 pellets and soak them in water for about 30 seconds. (they'll go mushy) Then put them on the food and mix around. The pellets prevent pyramiding. My Torty doesn't like them, but if I mix them...
Here are more of my little torty! She (or possibly he) climbs on this wooden "slide" then slides down face first in the dirt, only to go back and repeat the process around 10 more times.
Can my Hermann's tortoise eat Aka Ivy? I just put another plant in her enclosure for humidity but am wondering if it's poisonous.
Thank you!

Oh yes, we take her out on the yard and let her graze on the grass. She isn't brave enough to try any other plants she see's outside. She is really fast when she gets truckn'
Spud looks happy and healthy! Just add live plants suck as succulents in his/her enclosure and spray it down with a spritzer.
Also, increase the amount of calcium. My Torty has a cuttlefish bone in her tank, which she nibbles on. She loves it and it's good for fun and helps with the back shell...
