You will be buying hay by the bale pretty soon ! It is a staple for Speedy now , I chop some up in a bucket and soak it overnight to reconstitute it ! I mix in Greens , or Mazuri one day a week , or hay pellets one day a week ! I don't have acres of grass , so it works well for me .
I don't know that it is fair to make a "blanket" statement like that , I have purchased several pets off CL that have all done well . As I said the key is educating yourself enough to know a healthy animal from a sick one. Observation is also key , looking at how the animal lives is important...
I live in Arizona and never needed one . The key is a covered ( and dampened) enclosure , and daily soaking ! I did that for Speedy , he just turned 4 and no pyramiding yet ! :)
If you have taken the time to educate yourself enough to know what to look for , I see nothing wrong with buying off CL . I got Speedy off CL and he has done well in the last 4 years .
I started Speedy on "Hay Pellets" moistened and soaked before he was a year old just so he would get used to the taste of hay . It is a major part of his diet now .
I guess I should have said "Eating and Pooping Machines" !
My "Critters" are older , so I give them the opportunity to "thermo regulate" a big word that means go where they are most comfortable ! :D Your little guy needs your help until he gets older and figures all this stuff out . Put your temp senser in the coolest spot in your enclosure (furthest...
It would depend on the enclosure size . For my Ackie he just needs a warm spot to go at night . They are on timers , when his heat / basking lamp goes off , his RHP comes on ! You should probably have it on a thermostatic control . I use a 1000 watt Zilla temp . controller for Speedy . you might...
It looks like a type of Radiant Heat Panel . I use one for my "Ackie" and really like it ! I see no reason it wouldn't work , in fact I am putting a bigger one in Speedy's night box before next winter . Here is a pic of mine to compare . :)
