I'm a veggie, my reasons have changed over time, but now it is mostly to help the environment, the amount of damage that the agriculture system does to the world is enormous, look it up sometime. I don't force my views on others at all, but one thing I do request is that you do not eat veal...
Hi,
There is a A.S. Zoo Animal Technology Program (zookeeping school) that I attended in Gainesville, FL at Santa Fe Community College. They run their own zoo. It is actually where I got to like tortoises. They have many species of tortoise and turtles, along with many other mammals, birds...
If you are willing to drive a little ways, I have a great reptile vet in Lakeland, FL. I take my sulcata there, and in fact they have a sulcata that lives at their clinic. Her name is Dr. Theresa Merckel at the Polk County animal hospital. I think she does work on weekends, and they will...
Sorry to heat about your little guy. If it has not been too long, you could bring it to a vet to get a necropsy and find out exactly what happened. It helps a lot with piece of mind and adjusting techniques for your other torts.
Good luck!
Enclosure looks good, nice to have a bit of room to grow. I would say you don't need all those different kinds of pellets, especially if she is already eating grass and hay, most young ones don't like that. I would instead spoil her with a flower! Good luck and have fun!

I have a ton of ants on my hibiscus here in Florida too, I just rinse the flowers and leaves off with water before feeding them to my sulcata. They aren't fire ants, so I just leave them be.

I was looking carefully at our yearling "Io" and noticed that she had 3 spurs on one leg (one slightly smaller), and two on the other. I read a couple of places that they usually have 2.
Does anyone else have a sulcata with more or less spurs?
I assume that it can't hurt anything, I was...
Daniele,
How terrible that he wasn't fed! I hope you can nurse him back to health, I am sure you can get some more weight on him, I just hope too much damage has not been done already.
Best of luck!
Dianne
Danny,
Congrats on the eggs! That is quite a hole she dug! Hope they hatch out nice and healthy, are these the first eggs from these females?
Good luck,
Dianne
If you are interested in selling it, I have a yearling sulcata that would like a new and improved home. Do you have dimensions or a picture? I could pick it up from you in Orlando. You can message me with the info,
Thanks!

There was a Burmese brown tortoise (Manouria emys emys) at a zoo I used to work at that would take a swim almost everyday in a rather deep pond. She would make a couple of laps around and then crawl out with no problem. Everyone was so scared the first time they saw it, but she was completely...
Hopefully someone will correct me if i am wrong, but I have been told that they need UVB lighting, not UVA.
Depending on where you live you can grow other kinds of food, I have some hibiscus and grass mix growing for my sulcata, as well as naturally growing grass and clover.
Good luck, and...
