Also! I need help in choosing a light fixture for my basking lamp.
Can someone point me to which fixture is appropriate on this page?

This is my cart on LLLReptiles at the moment. I'm going to make my own half...
What's your guys' input on sealing the inside with a polyurethane finish? Its cabinet grade wood, so I don't think the tortoise is going to be chipping the wood and ingesting any at all.
My father, who is helping me build this thinks we should so long as it doesn't pose any risk to the tortoise.
Another thing, could either of you, or anyone else, compile me a shortlist of the things I'll need for the interior of the box? I've done my research of course, but I want to make sure I get everything.
And for things like the substrate, can you provide a link to a reliable website to purchase...
I couldn't go with the 4'x8'x1' dimensions that were recommended. :/ This is more like 3'x4'or5'x1'. A bit smaller, but will be countered with an excellent outdoor enclosure. It's not done yet, I still have to put a top that opens on the enclosed end, and stain the outside just for appearance...
That's 24x36x12. I was thinking 38x48(60 maybe?)x12
12 is fine in height IMO.
48" in length is fair, and 38" width is larger than you'd think. Smaller than 4'x8', but would suffice for the indoor and I could let it walk around in the floor or outside fairly often.
Going to be getting a Russian pretty soon. I have the capability to build my own indoor habitat, similar to those you see being sold on LLLReptiles, but after going to the pet store today to look around and seeing how big a 40 gallon tank is, I'm a bit conflicted...
What do you guys think I...
As far as I can tell? Only one was in the enclosure. If there was a second? No way it's going to be alive much longer. It would've had to be stuck under the half log in there.
I did not get to handle it. Whenever I go back, what is somethings I should look for before buying? I know you just...
I went to PetSmart today, and I know I said I didn't want a pet store one, but after seeing it at and the conditions it's in? I feel bad for it.
They want like $100 or so for it, which is no problem. It's enclosure was probably 12" in width, maybe 24" in length, and probably 8-10" in height...
I live in Central Alabama, no shelters have them here. :(
I know, but they're harder to keep healthy and take care of from what I understand, and quite frankly I don't support taking them out of the wild to be sold as pets.
I'll keep an eye on the forums though.
