Thanks! I got it in Homebase... I suspect you don't have those in Michigan?! It was on offer... About £5... As you can probably see it has a broken nose! I still like it though.
Thanks for these comments. It is good to know that you think there are other ways. I especially like his photos of natural environments and accompanying analysis of how best to recreate them. I have spend a good deal of time working out how to apply his advice to my garden.
Photos of inside hide. Heat lamp and tubular heater which is on a thermostat to protect from very low temperatures. Slate now removed, comparison can be made to original pic at the top of this thread. Any advice on this? I am a little unsure if it is an ideal setup. Thanks.
I have this, expensive book but I really found it useful. He has very high standards, Reading the book makes me feel like a complete failure! He says that a tortoise can never be a 'pet' in the way other animals can.
Thanks. I'll leave it for now and keep a close eye on them. I'm not entirely sure that they are girls, Perhaps they are too young to be able to tell? They are approximately 5 years old.
Thanks for your comments, regarding my wooden hut, it is currently sat on a thick slate, do you think this should be removed so the soil can be directly accessed? ... It is currently very dry in there, the basking lamp drys it out a lot. Perhaps plants in there?
Thanks for the suggestion, my understanding was that I should provide a range of temperatures so that they can regulate their temperature. Being in the UK I am concerned mainly about not providing enough warm spots, hence the aquarium. I have one basking lamp (and a tubular heater to protect...
One more query, I am struggling to update my profile. Can't add photo or alter my birthday/age. I am using the app on Android. Any thoughts? I'm probably being daft
Thanks for taking a look Tom. The white bits are small stones that once lived in the fishtank (which is now upturned as you can see) rather than throwing the stones out I impulsively chucked them into the tortoise enclosure... Was that a mistake do you think? Regarding housing them together...
Thanks, useful thoughts. I will look into this. Subtle bullying! That sounds very tricky to spot. Am I correct to think that if they are females they may be OK together?
I am new to tortoise keeping. I have tried to do my research, but as you probably all know... It seems to be a minefield of contradictions. I bought 'Naturalistic keeping and breeding of Hermann's tortoises' by Wolfgang Wegehaupt which has proven to be very useful. The following pictures are...
Thanks for the welcome everyone. I have pics of my outdoor enclosure to share. Constructive feedback appreciated! I'll try to find a relevant thread to post onto.
Hi, I'm Fraser. I have 2 5ish year old eastern hermann's. I got them at the end of last summer and decided not to hibernate them due to my inexperience. Now that spring has arrived I have been building an outdoor enclosure and am looking good forward to my first full summer as a tortoise owner!
