    3" Red Foot Tortoise

That's what I thought. He's still got muck on his shoulders and around his neck from the way he was shipped to me. Was thinking on using a q-tip to try and gently clean that out when he has a soak tonight. He was so packed with muck...as soon as I put him in the water he dunked his whole head...

Eguzzo. My Red footeds do not like heat above 85 degrees. In fact, a steady 82 is what I provide inside. I have NO basking areas. (INSIDE HOUSE) In my out doors enclosures they walk around in the morning and head for shade when the sun comes out. Later they come out again once it cools off. 120...

not yet, but I am looking for a scale of sorts to weigh him...he's heavier than I thought he would be...:) He sleeps a lot in his hide....but did spend about 30 minutes under the basking lamp yesterday. He's walked every inch of his enclosure....has yet to go in his water dish tho....front...

I turned up the furnace a couple of degrees, and now I have 84 F in cool end 90 F in warm and 105 F in basking area. :) When I got the poor guy home on Saturday he was absolutely caked in dirt and had a cricket jumping all over him....I had to change his water 4 times before there was no more...

I haven't tried spacing them out....I'll have to take the lid off and see if that helps. I do have almost half of the lid removed for the lamps already and I really don\t want to cut another hole in it, as I don't want to lose too much humidity. I have those levels pretty well perfect....just...

    3" Red Foot Tortoise

The one closest to the middle is the basking lamp and the other is a UVB light. If I raise the lamps the basking area gets to 95 F, but the cool end drops to 71 F. I was told never below 80 for a juvenile....but when I lower it to get the cool end to 80 F, I end up with above 120 under the...

Will he cook under that lamp, or will he move if he gets too hot. I have a juvenile that is about 3 inches long?

I'm going to go buy a ceramic heat emitter, hopefully this will help regulate temps without having a localized boiling spot....eeekkkk. He comes home tomorrow and I'm not ready!!!

Now I have another issue...I lowered the heat lamp to warm up the enclosure to 83 in the cool end and 88 in the warm end, but now directly under the basking lamp I am getting temp upwards of 120...I centred the water dish under it....but now I'm afraid I'm gonna cook the poor guy....help!!

Thank you Tortdad, I will lower the heat lamp. I am thinking on getting a ceramic heat emitter...will that keep the enclosure warmer than the heat lamp? Anyfoot, your Torts are beautiful! Thanks all for the welcome :)

Right now I have a large rubbermaid bin for it. 2 feet by 3 feet. I will be building a table as soon as the snow is gone. I've got the cool end at 72 F with 80 to 90% humidity, basking area is 90 to 100 F 85% humidity and the warm end is 85 F and 75% humidity. Using Cypress mulch and spagnum...

    3" Red Foot Tortoise

I am getting my 1st red foot tortoise this weekend. He/She is 3 inches long and I don't know if it's a hatchling, yearling or a juvenile? They all require slightly different care during those stages....I can't seem to find anything online that will clarify the approximate sizes to age. I am...
