Well it looks like my assumptions on the marginated genders worked-out, lol. I think they are still too young to produce viable eggs, but they are definitely starting to show interest. The 2 males are only about 6" and the female is 7". Who knows? Maybe in a couple years :)
Hi all,
I was on the west side of Michigan and noticed someone had a large Hibiscus growing directly in their yard. I didn't think they survived our winters, but this tree was definitely established. I would love to plant one, if they will live. I have been keeping smaller ones on the deck...
Hey there,
I'm fostering a pair of Leopards until Spring and was amused by the male's reckless efforts to "woo" his girlfriend! It really didn't seem to matter what side he mounted, lol :)
At this rate, I'm not holding my breath for eggs any time soon! Lol!
Be well
Hi All,
I've been using Marsh Grass and Clover Hay, for some of my larger Grassland species, as a substrate. I have been very happy with it, but had one concern. As they chew it down and graze, a dust residue forms and becomes airborn throughout my basement. I am trying to change the grass...
I'm noticing a lot of concern amongst hobbyists about which brand is better on light bulbs, heat pads, commercial diets, etc...
I've been a pet supply sales rep for 23 yrs now and have represented all of the major brands. When choosing a UV light or a heat bulb it is important to remember...
I've only been a member here since February, but I just wanted to take a moment and say how truly impressed I have been with the supportive attitude of this site. This has been a very positive experience and I have found all of you to be a very enriching group of people and fellow hobbyists...
I recently received an adult Gopherus Berlanderi or Texas Tortoise as a rescue. It had been passed around through several people and mixed with Sulcattas and Leopard Tortoises before it ended-up in my care. I set him up in his own habitat and dubbed him "Tombstone". I've never had a species of...
These two were hatched-out about a year ago and raised by friends of mine. I've watched them grow from haychlings to 4" yearlings and couldn't resist when my friends were selling them. They are very personable and come running right up to you. I'm not sure of their gender at this size, but they...
Well, I always admired Star Tortoises and had planned on saving-up for a pair at this summer's Daytona Expo. An opportunity unexpectedly popped-up and after years of waiting, I finally got my pair of Indian Star Tortoises.
I must say that they exceeded my expectations. I always thought they...
Has anyone else ever experienced males to be very outgoing and females to be shy? I even tested it with groups in stores and everytime the ones who come-up and beg for food or allow head scratching are males. The ones who clam-up or impersonate rocks are the females. Is this a normal pattern or...
These guys were a bit more shy. I managed to get one halfway decent pic of the Cherryhead Buttface, lol. I'll try and get some better shots, I have an older camera and am limited.
Hope you enjoy
Jeff
Well, if you read my thread under Marginateds you already know that my attempts to return from Daytona, with no new additions, has utterly failed. I ended-up with 4 wonderful hatchling Marginateds, at an exceptional price, then after the show temptation came a knocking once more! I'm only...
Well, I tried. I tried as hard as I could to come home from the Daytona Breeders Expo with no new additions. I made it all the way thru Sunday afternoon. It was in the final few hours of the show, those dark evil hours that tempt and call you like sirens calling ships to the rocks! It's really...
Hi everyone,
I hadn't planned on going this year, but was just asked to work the Exo-Terra booth Sat-Sun(Aug 23-24). If any of you are coming, stop by the Exo-Terra booth and say "Hi" :)
Be well
Jeff
I tried getting some good shots of the Hingebacks, but they do not co-operate. They never seem to move, when the camera is ready, lol. This is Homer. I've had Homer and Maude for a little over a year. I brought home the new male, last night. He still needs a name and a girlfriend :)
I need to take some updated pics, but these are my 3 Marginateds about 1 year ago. The 2 smallest have almost caught-up with the biggest! I'm still working on names for them :)
