    UVB light question.

I don't think there's too much sun. He ended up spending most days outside, and came in at night. I did get the merc vapor bulb too. Great thing for a tort to be outside!

Mississippi Map, possible shell rot/soft shell

Thank you! He does have a spot to get out of the water, I hardly see him use it. As for UVA and UVB I bought the 'water turtle' light set up at the pet store. :)

To add, he's not lethargic, swims like crazy all the time and eats regularly.

Mississippi Map, possible shell rot/soft shell

I have a beautiful young mississippi map turtle he's a baby only about 5 months old. He is in a 40gal aquarium, with a magnetic turtle dock, he eats exo terra turtle food and gets romaine (that he doesn't touch) and some fresh crickets and meal worms as a treat. 80 deg water temp and a basking...

    Tortoise and Neuroplasticity

I've had a neat thought that I think merits some expert conversation. I saw a post of a cute russian tort sleeping, pretty cute, in the picture the individual who posted makes comment about her choice of substrates, coconut coir and repti-bark, which I use also she comments that she keeps the...

    Paladrium advice

I am looking to start a Paladrium, I've been doing a lot of research but have not had a lot of luck. I want to use a 55-75 gal tank, partition off 1/3 for land and 2/3 for water. In the water I would like to start with a baby painted turtle, a freshwater clam, some crayfish and perhaps some sort...

    Substrate question

I live in upstate ny, am still figuring things out, what are everyone's opinions for best substrate for my torts indoor pen. Outdoor he has organic topsoil, indoor I'm using coconut coir as a base and repti bark on top. I don't like the bark at all!! It doesn't hold moisture. Thanks!

    Is this shell rot?

I rescued this little guy a few weeks ago, he wasn't being cared for properly. I noticed this morning that he has a spot on the underside of his shell. It looks like it may be healing. I've read a lot on proper care and have been doing a good job following those guidelines. Any help would be great

    soon to be tortoise owner

I just rescued a russian tortoise 2ish weeks ago. I've done the best I can for him and greatly improved the living situation he was in. My best advice is to read everything you can. Almost everyday he does something or I have a question about how to make him happier and do a little research. As...

    New russian tort.

2 or so weeks a go I rescued a russian tortoise. He was living in less than ideal living conditions, his enclosure had never been cleaned, he was not being soaked. He wasn't being fed the right foods, lots of broccoli and spinach. I started him on a proper diet, spring mix, turnip and dandelion...
