I love this thread! I've been on youtube this whole weekend watching "how to compost" videos. I want to start composting this year. However I do have one question for all of you: I want to purchase one of those compost drums that you can spin. Do I need worms in my compost bin to breakdown all...

Ahhh! Yvonne, you're scaring me. I use coco coir and I see those long strings sticking out in the substrate. I'm going straight home to remove as many of those loose string as I can tonight.

Is it ok to mix the calcium powder with water? I want to put the mixture in a spray bottle and spray my tortoise's food instead of sprinkling the food with the powder. I really don't like how the powder gets all over Obi's face and shell.

I have a Spider Plant and a couple African Violets in my tortoise enclosure.

Yup, 4F here today. This morning when I went out to my car my doors were frozen shut to my car. I tried all 4 doors, honestly thought I was gonna break a handle or two. Eventually got the back passenger door open and crawled to the front. What a great start to my Minnesota winter, huh :)
