    Why do people breed Sulcata's

I was thinking about the amount of sulcta hatchlings that I see in local stores for sale and how many full grown sulcatas I see or hear about in my area... I would guess the survival rate is about 7% at most. Anyone else have similar observations?

    Baby Sulcata's indoor setup

RE: [split] Baby Sulcata's indoor setup Ha! Pops, my 40lb sulcata sneaked into the house this morning (second time) he walks from room to room, pooping and urinating along the way. I just finished cleaning it up. I wish I had taken a pic, would have been good to have for questions like this...

    outdoor sulcata

Judging by the type of animals you said you've seen in your yard, you probably have coyotes even if you have not seen them. A coyote can jump a 7' wall with no problem and I believe dogs(coyotes) are the #1 cause of death or injuries to torts and turts.

    Why do people breed Sulcata's

Interesting fact! This law was only enacted in the U.S. for one reason, in the 70's there was a wide spread break out of salmonella in children. It was thought that if a turtle was over 3", a child would be less likely to place it in his or her mouth. The law had nothing to do with the...

New to the Forum and being a tortoise mom

Hello and welcome, Anyone else have tortoise or turtle tattoos? Willing to post a pic? I was thinking of getting my sulcata tattooed on my arm, a mean looking(manly) pose like the old military bulldog tats, here’s a pic of one of those, it is not mine.

Clarence the Galop at Moorpark Zoo

My sulcata Pops bit my finger when I was feeding him apple slices, hurt a lot and bled a little. I gave them grapes one day and now whenever they see toes, they will try to bite/eat them.

    Hi!, new member here

Yes! I'll pm you[hr] It’s just a painted 1"x10"x8' with a couple of stakes driven into the ground on each side to hold it up, plus I can move it around the yard to prevent the grass getting worn in one spot. Not too expensive, from home depot.

In doing research on tortoises on the internet, I have noticed about half of the sites are in England, seems a lot of people in that part of Europe are into or have tortoise. Are there any tortoises that are native to that part of Europe?? If not, I thought it was interesting.

More pics, One of pops-6, Speed-4 and trixie-2 together. It's only a guess that pops is 6, the vet who gave him to me said that when they are 35-40lb they are in the 5-6 range, sulcatas are full grown around 12 yrs I believe. Speed might be a little closer to 4 not 100% sure and he was very...
