Hey everyone,
Iggy has been eating much better than before. I can seem to sneak some veggies and greens in a little bit of the ZooMed Box Turtle canned food. Also if I crush the pellets up into a powder form and mix it in or dusting his night crawlers. I was thinking of bulking Iggy up a little...
I wish I could have an outside pen but living in my apartment I can’t. I live on the bottom floor and though I don’t think anyone would mess around or steal him I just don’t trust it. I live in an upper class area luckily. My patio is actually quite large enough for an outside enclosure. Then I...
Yeah I’ve tried that technique and countless variations of greens and veggies. He’s super stubborn. I literally have a child on my hand that refuses any kind of green or veggie. He hates any kind of squash, sweet potato, etc. I’ve tried all different kinds of greens like mustards, endive...
I feed him every other day because he’s not very interested in food everyday. He doesn’t just nibble every 10 minutes. He gets pieces of fruit on the in between days as a snack. He’s definitely not starving by any means. Though you can consider him a wild animal, he still has his own schedule...
So I feed Iggy on an every other day schedule. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and I alternate between Saturdays and Sundays. He seems pretty rebellious as far as veggies and greens go. He absolutely loves kiwi. I did by some box turtle pellets to replace the greens/veggies for now. I figured I could...
Honestly I would skip any kinds of nuts. Stick to leafy greens, veggies, fruits and protein. I’m not even sure if a turtle could digest a nut. Also, pine is known to be toxic to turtles and tortoises so I’d definitely stay a way from anything pine related.
I truthfully don’t recommend any kind of glass enclosure because even a 40 gallon offers such cramped up space. If you HAVE to use a glass enclosure make sure you wrap some type of newspaper around the base as turtles and tortoises do not recognize glass and will consistently bump into it...
Yeah I like the way it looks like this now, it amazing how much better it looks when I add one simple plant to the other 3 lol..I try to make sure his water dish has plants on both sides (of which he will hide by and go to sleep by) to make him feel more secure when soaking. He was pretty active...
Yeah I’m trying. I love those 3 plants that look the same. He seems to hang around those the most in the prior arrangement. He decided to dog right next to the log right under the light..on purpose because he hates me right now lol
Easterns are my absolute favorite. Florida Box turtles being my second. Three toed close second tie. Very nice looking colors.
Here is mine. I love the dominate black with yellow more than the yellow over black but those are some fine looking males!
I fee the same way. My 7 yr old chocolate lab just had an emergency gastrotomy because he had a medium sized tennis ball in his stomach. Some jerk off left a small tennis ball in our apartment complex even though the rules clearly state clean up after your pet both waste and toy wise. I can tell...
Just replaced did my bi monthly cleaning of Iggy’s enclosure and I rearranged/added some more plants to make him feel even more shaded and hidden. Excuse my leaf litter, I have to re up as I’m running low lol..[emoji30]
What do you guys think?
I love this little dude but I think he’s...
Yeah I have at least 4-5 fake plants in his indoor enclosure. I have a pretty decent size stock tank that he’s living in. Unfortunately I can’t house him outside as I live in a bottom floor apartment. However, I have created a comfortable setup for him. He seems to be very happy. I’m not...
So I’m thinking of changing substrate this month. I still want to use my soil as a bottom layer but I was thinking of adding more cypress mulch as a top layer. This last setup I did a very light top layer with magnolia leaf litter but I was thinking of making the mulch layer a bit thicker to...
Yeah my Eastern is becoming Mr Personality now that he has settled in more. He’s starting to get more trusting of me. He doesn’t run from me or flinch as much when I get near him. I think overtime he’ll become like a puppy dog with me. I don’t think I’ve ever loved a reptile as much as I love...
I think 1 is enough for me lol. I wish I had a house I would build an outdoor enclosure but I live in a large two bedroom apartment so I have to house Iggy indoors. He seems to be doing well in a decent size stock tank I tricked out for him. The reptile place I ordered him from also just got...
What are your state laws like in regards to keeping Box turtles? I live in Maryland and am only allowed to own 1 Box Turtle and any additional I would need a permit.
Hi,
Please understand everyone on here is mostly experiences. I am also new to Box Turtle care and both Yvonne and Colleen have really helped me learn a lot so far about how to care for my Eastern Box Turtle. No one is here ridiculing you, but keep in mind, these are delicate species and they...
