Hello, i have some "not so good" news :(
Ninja was diagnosted a Pneumonia, after the X-ray (i attached the images), it's clear that afects only one lung, what is not that bad as if it was both of them. Its a very distressing situation to "hear" her breathing, she has not a runny nose, only small bubbles sometimes wich make her clean her nose with her front legs. Sometimes she makes a real effort to breath, puting her neck outside and open her mouth, thit too makes an distressing sound, poor baby.
She's being medicated with Intramuscular injections of antibiotic (3 in 3 days) and i hope she will recover well.
I keep her inside for now, in a smaller enclosure to make sure that all the temps and humidity are fine. (86 F - 65-70% Humidity)

But now, one question if you can help me, the vet told me to make sure she keeps eating and to keep an eye on that and also if she becomes too letargic (wich is not hapening thank god), sometimes she looks very relaxed.
This picture was taken a few minutes ago:

She is very quiet and do not "walk around" very much, sleeps a lot, but keeps eating, not as much as she used to, but she keeps eating. But what she eats is not very recomended (as i read), I feed Ninja with 90% vegetables (cabbage) and some leafs of Hibiscus and Dandelion (shes not very fan of dandelion yet). I give her: Turnip leaf, Broccoli leaves, watercress, but what she really loves is the "white cabbage" and Turnip leaves.
I know that is not recommend to give tortoises cabbage, but i've read some keepers (testudo gg) that give exactly what i'm giving to Ninja, and the Vets didnt mention anything against it.

I want to hear it from you, and please help me idetifying some plants that i have in a wilderness place near my house (i never gave her any of them), and if there are some plants best recommended for the particular situation of Ninja, this pneumonia.

Many thanks in advance to all of you that can help.

The second picture is mallow. That is an ok tortoise food. The third looks like some sort of thistle. That would be ok too. Sorry but I'm unsure what the others are.

Where is it 86 in your enclosure? There are 4 temperatures to watch and be concerned with: Warm side, cool side, basking area, and overnight low. For a sick tortoise fighting infection, I would suggest keeping everything warmer than normal. Warm side 86-90, cool side 80, basking area 100, overnight low should not drop below 80 anywhere in the enclosure.

Also, it is a good idea to soak daily with the warmer temps and injections. Hydration is very important right now for your tortoise.

Seems like your vet is treating the symptoms, but I didn't se anything addressing the CAUSE of this problem. Most of the time it is due to temps being too cold. Either too cold at night, or simply not warm enough for too many days in a row.

Read this: http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/beginner-mistakes.45180/

I typed this one up for russian tortoises, but care is essentially the same:

About your weeds: 2, 3 and 5 are good tortoise foods. I don't know the rest. There is some stuff that looks like clover in some of the pics. I'm pretty sure it is oxalis, and it should not be fed to tortoises. A picture of the flowers will confirm or deny my suspicion. Does it make little yellow, inch long, trumpet shaped flowers?

Ambient is 86, basking is 98, there is not realy a "cold side" but its around 78 the far side of the lamp.
At night, it stands pretty the same temps with the CHE
Humidity around 65/70 % (i have, under the paper towel/newspaper, i have coco coir moist, and the humidity is controlable)
I soak her everyday.

The cause of Ninjas Pneumonia, its related to her situation (shes been rescued three months ago from being carried to Portugal from her homeland in Morocco by plane inside someones pocket(1) and her first days were without any conditions what so ever, no heat or lights, etc..
But i consider that she spent a lot of nights (already with me) with night temperatures too low (around 62-68 F) and that may have caused her problem now.

The plants
The 1st plant, some other already suggest that is toxic/lethal to tortoises. And you're probably right about the clover-looking plants, it does that yellow flower.
I should give her 2, 3 and 5. Will not the "spikes" of the 3/5 do any harm to her mouth/digestive system?

Do you recommend any plant to her specific condition?
Many thanks to you all!

Those temps sound good for normal housing, but I would go 5 degrees warmer for one fighting an infection.

Those spikes on the weeds won't hurt a thing. I feed it to mine all the time. Also, the mallow is one of the main foods mine eat for several months a year. Its good stuff.

I know of no plants that will help with sickness. Just offering an over all good diet with lots of variety is the best I know how to do.

Sorry to hear Ninja is ill.
See www.thetortoisetable.org.uk for tort safe foods etc. and to check what they say about his usual diet.
Maybe feed favourites as long as they are ok to feed regularly and not just in moderation.
Good luck and I hope Ninja is better soon.

Hi, Bruno!
So, I think I may have been pretty much right, but it's good to have it confirmed.
Don't risk number one, but 2, 3 and 5 are probably ok.
Jury still out on the other two, though i certainly feed something that looks like 6 myself.

You were absolutely right, spot on, Adam! I follow your recommendation and created this thread.
Number 1 is completely out, of course! And about the number 6, i will not risk either.
Tomorrow i will try the prickly ones and the mallow. Do you guys know how can i cultivate some of that 2 inside?
Do they need seeds or do you think they continue to grow just by riping them from earth with roots and placed in a flowerpot?
