Managed to find the first juicy dandelions of the spring to feed to Lola and he made very quick work of them too. He will still have to have some crispy salad for a while yet to bulk his food out until I find a bigger supply of dandies but it was great to see him tucking in. Never thought I'd be getting so excited about a bunch of weeds!

Cool!
Dandelion have been impossible to grow here. It's the one thing I'd like to be able to grow.
I'm thinking it's our alkaline soil. Lots of Coral rock in it.
Taraxacum officinale, the usual type of dandelion are famous for growing in almost any soil conditions and indeed, if anything prefer alkaline soil.
They do like sunlight though, but that shouldn't be a problem for you?
Perhaps there's something else in the coral?

agreed...@zeropilot my soil is really alkaline as well. Maybe you could grow some in pots?? You know you love a tortoise when you are striving to grow weeds:D

My neighbours leave dandelions on my doorstep! It must make me look very unpopular to those who don't know about Lola.

Our UK clocks went forward an hour last night as BST starts, it will be interesting to see if this affects Lola - I'm guessing not but her food will be an hour later in the morning. Fortunately she's usually still in her hide usually when I pop her plate in.

I keep saying she/her still, but looks she is a he - still called Lola at moment though.
