Hey everyone,
It is getting to be winter time here in LA and I was wondering if I should do anything about the low humidity. Without a dehumidifier it is around 20-30% in the whole enclosure.
I see, well the enclosure is pretty big compared to him. In fact there is a whole sheltered area that he really doesnt even use. I am going to try to take away any caveish things near the heat lamp.
Hey everyone,
The little guy is doing great in his new home. He is adventuring outside eating clovers and dandelion leaves and regular meals too. My only question regards where he sleeps. As of lately, unless I sort of place him in front of his little burrow area, he tends to sleep under...
Just a little update.
The little guy is relaxing in his new home (in my open closet at college which is the least humid area, highs of 45% and lows of 30-33%). The word closet is used loosely. So far the little guy doesn't seem to like wild dandelion leaves or clovers so much... I need to...
Sounds good, as luck has it, I have a dehumidifier so I have a humidity of 40-45% in the non heated area and the heated area has 30-35%. I am trying to lower the 40-45% but as long as it is below 50% hopefully the little guy will be ok.
I will email lllreptile about the subspecies!
Thanks
Cool thanks guys!
I think I will just leave it on, he doesnt usually stay near there at night.
Also, I have been trying to find this online, what is the ideal % humidity for a greek tortoise?
Thanks!
I was at first, but then I read that tortoises like a drop in night time temp I have it on from 8am to 8pm. The air temp does not drop below 74.
But, I could keep it on 24/7 if that is better.
Cool! Yeah, my little one just found the desert snow, which I have moved into his enclosed hide, he seems to like the feel for burrowing and it keeps that area cool and dry. I will probably get the aspen for the main area. Thanks!
Thanks! I think that aspen sounds like a good choice, considering the little one will be getting outside as much as I can (probably every day). Thanks!
That looks great! I am sure my hatchling greek would love a pen like that, but I don't think the grounds keeping crew at my college would like it very much. For now he will have to be satisfied with daily outdoor adventures.
Quick question, did you use any specific kind of soil for the pen...
Hello all,
So here is my issue, right now my hatchling greek tortoise has an wooden enclosure with three kinds of substrates: alfalfa pellets and hay, and desert snow (hardwood pulp). For the most part, I have found that although alfalfa is not great to use for tortoises it isnt AWEFUL... but...
I have a question about aspen, would a baby greek prefer shredded or chipped aspen? I have alfalfa pellets and, like Granolagal, have been swayed by the forum goers to get ride of it and replace it with aspen.
Thanks! thats good to hear, I have been slowly taking out some of the hay, there is just a little here and there because he seems to like to burrow under it at night.
