I'm not an expert by any means these are just my thoughts. Maybe he is too cold when he's inside so he just curious up in his shell and hangs out until you put him outside and he warms up.
CHEs do get hot while in use however, if it's in a ceramic fixture and not resting against anything combustible you shouldn't have any problems with overheating.
Upstate New York. Spring doesn't happen until June it seems. He was started dry. I was raising him dry for the first few weeks I had him as well. Then I raised the humidity in his enclosure and started soaking him daily. And that's when I starred recording his weight. He started at 99g on...
I've been recording my hatchling's weight for about two months. At first he was gaining about 7-10g a week and then about three weeks ago he dipped to only about 4-5g a week. Is this something to worry about? His diet wasn't all that varied. Mostly spring mix. Recently I got a grass mix from...
Today when my wife was dabbing the look spots with antibiotic ointment they wiped right off! And while I don't have a lot of experience with tortoise anatomy it looks exact ly like what I think a tortoise scab would look like!
We started dabbing a little bit of ointment on the dots on his head and they look like they're drying out! Thanks for your guys' advice I really appreciate it.
He is so skiddish there is no way I could get the ointment back there. He sucks his head in the second he sees a hand anywhere near his head. Do you have any ideas for getting it on him?
I got him from a reptile expo in Florida. He was definitely started dry by the looks of it. When I first got him I was keeping him dry as well until I found this forum and saw the error of my ways. He didn't grow much for the first two months we had him but, now that he is in breeder conditions...
My tortoise is getting these weird spots on the back of his neck. I'm not sure what they are and was hoping someone on here could help. His temps are 85 warm side 90ish warm side 100 basking and no lower than 80 at night. His humidity suits right sound 65-70% throughout the day and I spray him...
The two you got from andy look dry compared to the two you already had. I got my sulcata from a breeder that raised him dry and at first his weight gains were very small as you're experiencing. After keeping him properly hydrated though his weight slowly started increasing more quickly. The past...
I would think that your humidity levels are going up at night because, you turn all of your lamps off. The humidity probably gets burnt off by your lights/the heat coming from those lights during the day. I'm new to this as well though so don't take that to heart.
