Over here in the UK there is'nt the avaliability you have in the States. If you could successfully breed more unusual tortoises - ie Golden Greeks, Radiated, Egyptians then you could make. I recently saw an ad for egyptian hatchlings for £1100 ($2000) each. It is possible to make money:)

In your shoes I'd buy it - it's never going back to the wild now - whats done is done etc. The only thing that would concern me is the runny nose but because I particularly want a Golden Greek I would get my Vet to have a go at getting it healthy.

How are you going to handle natural sunlight etc? Is'nt their a danger they could get burnt?

There are pets shops and pets shops. There's a specialist shop near me thats excellent and there's another one that is revolting. I would happily buy from the former but not the later. This should not be a black and white issue.

Are you giving your tortoise plenty of Calcium? How warm is the basking area?
