The box has been cleaned and dried.
And just to clarify, do you mean, don’t bathe him again, or just check to make sure he doesn’t urinate again?
He is currently in his dry and clean box in the garage,
Still with a view to putting him in the fridge (which is inside the house)
From what I...
I am preparing to put my Greek Spur Thigh (Testudo graeca ibera) into his hibernation fridge tonight.
He has been without food for 5 weeks,
Regularly been bathed,
And all lights, basking bulbs and heat gradually reduced over the 5 weeks.
The fridge is set at 5 degrees. And is holding steady...
I have been dropping the temp over the last week or so,
dropping the temp on the final day to around 10 c.
I think I have rushed it, and not let him settle at that temp.
Took him back out, bathed him after 4 hrs.
Bath him again tomorrow
And do a better job on Friday.
I have just put my Greek Spur Thigh (Testudo graeca ibera) into hibernation last night.
Into a fridge with the temp set to 5 degress.
Monitored the fridge over the last 2 weeks, temp range 4 to 6.
Withheld food for 35 days
Tortoise size, 204mm
Weight, 1519 grams
About 9 years old
Went into...
i turned off his lights a few days before.
turned down the radiator in his room the week leading up.
boxed him up and put him in the front porch which is unheated, the temp dropped from about 12 to about 8 degrees in a 2 hour period.
then popped him into the fridge which was set at 6.5.
then...
He is in a stack and store box, padded out with newspaper.
in a fridge,
With an external thermostat that I bought, which reads within 2 decimal places, which gives me a good accurate temp.
The fridge stays between 6.5 and 5.3 degrees
