Yeah, unfortunately due to the overgrowth his beak grew long and outwards. She didn’t take anymore off because it was a thin area and she didn’t want to...break his beak I guess? She initially wanted to do 2 separate trimmings to let him get used to eating with a shorter beak but for now this is...

I wanted to update everyone on Walter’s transformation. He hasn’t eaten yet (just got the beak trimmed yesterday) but he seems almost back to himself. His claws got trimmed too. I will be much more diligent now on the foods he eats and on his beak growth.
I just wanted to update for anyone curious. I looked for a new vet and we had the appointment yesterday for Walter. It’s a farther drive for us but it was absolutely worth it. I was asked what felt like 100 questions about Walter, his habitat, his food, his personality. The vet was so attentive...
Thanks everyone for your responses. I have taken Walter to the vet but am now switching vets so it’s taking a while to get this done for him. I have also switched out the terra cotta saucer dish for a slate of rock to put his food on. He seems to be fine, he is his usual self, I am just annoyed...
He has an outdoor enclosure for the summer but it’s winter in northern Indiana so unfortunately he has to stay inside. Is there anything I could keep in his enclosure that could help? What hard bits of food can I feed him?
I discovered today a strange almost wart-like growth on my tortoise’s lower beak just underneath his mouth. I soaked him (Walter) in a warm bath for 25 minutes then tried to clean the area with a q-tip because I thought it might be dried food but it wouldn’t come off and I didn’t want to hurt...
I mean they’re easier than a dog and they’re fun to watch and they’re so cute. I hope he falls in love with whatever you end up getting!
Edit: boyfriend said absolutely no more water turtles.
For the price difference I don’t think it’d be worth it to get a smaller filter. Fluval have slightly smaller filters for at most $50 less but you would need to upgrade anyway so I think that may be the best to get. I didn’t realize they could stay in a 50 gallon I still have my 75 gallon maybe...
Here’s a pic of the stand that I use for my tortoise. It has a mercury vapor bulb in it, there are different brands with different watts, I believe this s a powersun 100 watt.
This is what I ended up doing for the new 125 gallon because the stand aren’t tall enough for these taller tanks. I...
When I got my first turtle it was a baby red eared slider. I bought him for $10 in Chinatown in Chicago (gimme a break I was 19). They were telling people they could live their whole lives in these dinky plastic carrying containers (it is the first pic I posted in this thread of Tenzin). Now I...
And I use the mercury vapor bulb with just one light fixture with all of that because it provides UVB and heat so you don’t need two separate bulbs with two separate fixtures.
Haha it seems very overwhelming at first but once you’re started it’s pretty easy. The screen should be fine, but remember that the light will be right at the top of the tank so the water level needs to be low enough so that when they bask they aren’t roasting! That’s why I recommend the tank...
