I currently have a glass tank with a screen top, but need to upgrade to a bigger size for my baby sulcata tort. What is best to use? I see large shallow containers being used and other housing items. I just want to do the right thing. Please help.

Hello, I’m happy to be a new member. Look forward to learning a lot.
Right now my question has to do with Charlies shell (4month old sulcata) Is it normal for the shell to have dents and or lumps at this age? Or am i doing something wrong with his diet, UV ect. Thanks in advance for helpful advise. 😊
Hey Tom, I am looking for a good UVA/UVB light strip for my sulcata. I was looking for the Arcadia ProT5 17% UVA and 7% UVB and ran into that one and a 12% UVB. I would need to put the light on top of the wire i have on the enclosure. Do you prefer one over the other? Thank you!

That might be too close, even through a screen. No way to know without a UV meter. Its okay to go a few weeks in a row in winter with no UV. Use a calcium supplement with D3, and the Mazuir you are feeding has D3 in it too. Save your money.

oh okay! I usually just put him in the sun when I soak him (30 mins) but since it has been cold, I haven't been putting him in the sun. I did not know that the mazuri pellets had D3. good to know! Any recommendations on just lighting? I got my tort a new enclosure and foiled the top to keep in the humidity but want to add some good light so it isnt too dark. Thank you!

Hi, we live in Fort Lee, New Jersey, USA. It is a Korean town with many H-Marts. H-Mart has fresh cucumbers for our tortoises. Nice to be in the forum with you!

I'm glad to see you! I've heard about the mart, but it's not in Korea🤣🤣

I really want to go to America someday!
My 45# Sulcata just had to have his beak trimmed.. I'm not sure what's its called in Tortoise language but he has to lift his head up over the V type breast piece to eat, it looks like he's having trouble lifting it that high to get up & over.. Do they ever trim that??? The Veterinarian didn't mention anything about it.. I just need to know if anyone has ever had that trimmed

No that dose not get trimmed it’s called the guler (probably the wrong spelling) projection and it is live bone just like the shell it’s normal for a male to have one of those

What kind of foliage are you using in your tort enclosure? I love the natural look and all the hides it provides. Are they real plants?

Some of them are real, like the pothos and grasses, but the bigger ones are fake. I buy them at hobby lobby whenever they go on sale for 50% every couple of weeks, then buy cheap plant pots and river rocks to keep them standing up then bury them in the mulch 😁
Hello,

I'm ReflectedGray. I live in the California Bay Area. I have a Russian tortoise named Delilah. Delilah is approximately 13 - 15 years old, though I am unsure as she was a rescue. I've had Delilah for most of her life, and she is my only tortoise. I love tortoises generally and would likely have others if my living space permitted it. In addition to Delilah I have a dog, cat, and horse.
Hi there, I was wondering if you could tell me how to build the perfect sulcata baby enclosure. Thank you in advance!
Hey hi...are you still looking for a home for Fred? There's a very experienced TFO member who would like him. He lives about 40 miles from me. He is willing to pay shipping, is there something we can work out?
Hi Carol, I am hoping you have russian tortoises available. Our families has been researching tortoises and what type of care they need for awhile and are ready to bring a tortoise into our family. It seems like you are the breeder to contact! Or if you don't have any now or in the near future, is there someone you recommend? We are so glad to have stumbled upon this site. Thank you.
Hi I was wondering if you have any tricks to get my box turtle Leo to eat any leafy greens. Thanks
Tom

I learned from Terry O. Look up her old box turtle posts. Basically make a meaty mix of their favorites and mix in more and more fruits, greens or veggies over time. Start with hardly any, and mix in more as the turtle accepts it.
