I getting better at using the camera in my phone. That feeding tile is a bit messy.

I don't remove yesterday's food always as sometimes they like it better a day old. There are a few 'zones' on the tile, I move around on it. They seem to like oyster mushrooms after they get slimy from the day before. Pumpkin is highly sought after and of grocery greens I think arugula is favored. The 'wandering jew' plant get nailed pretty hard about once a week as well.

I've noticed that if I'm late feeding the baby desert tortoises, the dried up old yesterday food that was there first thing when I got out of bed, is gone by the time I'm ready to add fresh. And my babies look great. I doubt it's harmful.

Yeah T5 HO Zoomed 5.0, the whole of my garage's ambient bottoms out at 68F and the high can get into the high 90'sF, the light and a seed starting mat provide additional warmth from ambient.
It can get mid 90F in there during the day this time of year. When night time temps are in the mid 70sF I'll turn the heat mats off (unplug them) otherwise they come on together and go off together. I adjust temp more in regard to RH than temp itself. These guy are much more driven by RH than temp. That adjustment is done with how big a gap I leave in the plastic produce bag door.

Well they all get the leftovers until they are gone or decompose. Many times the semi decomposed food is preferred. The microbes that do that work no doubt use some of the nutrients, but also make them more available by breaking down cell walls of the plant matter (like spider venom predigesting food).

@Kapidolo Farms how is the pair doing? I’m curious about growth rates in this species. I’ve read the yearly brumation period can be long (3+ months?) which makes me wonder if they are a slow-grow species, thanks.

Wow, it's been 4 years. I placed them in their own enclosures a few years ago. One has been growing well, slowly and not getting that funny coastal pyraminding they seem to get. The other is growing but much slower. I started feeding them some of the organic grain free cat food I use with redfoots (much less) and they go for it. They will eat as many hibiscus flowers as I can provide.

I have a total of 8 of this species. A pair was shipped to me, the male died in transit, it's own post somewhere here on TFO. The 'female' has become a male over time. I just posted about that yesterday. Suppressed sexual expression from housing two together. It's taken five years for that to reveal itself,

Then there are four adult males I got at one time, as males, 2013/14? They have grown and rape each othjer on a regular basis for about a month, then go back to eating, pooping, and growing.

There is one other single individual I got two years ago now(?) and it is doing well.

I recently bought many many prayer plants and put them in the enclosures, they hang out under the outstretched leaves like 'you can't see me' and eating has upticked, but so has the warmth of spring, hard to know which issues perturbed eating.

I have a few one gallon hand pump garden sprayers, and they all get rained on with those about every other day. I really like them, they are like very slow motion red foots. Ha Ha.

@Kapidolo Farms Any update for us on these awesome spiders, Will?

That is great! Glad you are having success with them. Updated pics would be great! There aren't enough of this species on here.

Yeah Yeah, pictures. I guess that is the porn of TFO. Sigh.

*Porn = obsession of the object, not the individual.
