I do not know about the toxicity or this succulent, but I can promise you it will be trampled, if not eaten.

Does the package list the latin name? Perhaps you could look it up that way.

+1 to Tom's comment.
Also, don't be sure that washing a plant will get the horrible chemicals used in commercial nurseries; many are systemic and become part of the plant for many months to come.
I might be able to ID it if you show more pics from different angles.

It looks like it's in the crassula family.
