As you probably know, anyone can edit a Wikipedia article. What you may not know is that there is a cloud of people who help regulate this in various ways, from volunteer editors to special interest working groups.

The group for turtles and tortoises, WikiProject Turtles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Turtles) ranks chelonian articles for their research usefulness and seems to have some pretty decent guidelines and goals.

I have a question and a challenge...

QUESTION:
This group ranked the current Red-foot article at a 'C' (too much care info, not enough information about the species), and I would like to try to raise that grade. I can do the writing and research, but am not familiar with Wikipedia formatting and conventions. Can anyone help me format articles for Wikipedia- adding maps, footnotes, etc. the right way?

CHALLENGE:
Any other smart folk here want to tackle other species or help with the Red-foot? Granted, this forum is mostly about cares, but know there are a lot of IQ points gathered here. I think it would be great to see more TFO folk taking a role in this.

Mark I couldn't find it.. where did you find the info that states the Red-foot article is ranked at "C" ?

I have noticed that some of those that they "reference".. you in fact also reference at your Library - [ some you don't ].

There are currently 16 names there.. scroll down to see them here -

Click on the discussion tab at the top of the article, or here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Red-footed_tortoise

It is not the number of links that determines the grade- it is the content and its usefulness for research. The idea is that a person looking for information about the natural history, taxonomy, etc. on the species should find it here. It is perfectly OK to link to other care sheets, etc. but the project would prefer to see more about the species itself. The project offers some examples, like the wood turtle or Galapagos tortoise articles.
