why does my avatar have two pictures

I have posted a question and an avatar but the avatar has a large and a small picture. Any ideas what I have done wrong. Thanks

Thank you. On my screen, it shows two. So this must mean that one's own avatar shows two pictures to help identify personal posts. Very helpful, thanks.
