Hello fellow tort lovers,
don't hate me but I now own the cutest and smartest tortoise in the world. She is a Burmese star hatchling female hatched Sept 2013. In the past I've owned I owned Leopards, Burmese black mountains and Sri Lankan stars but this tiny Burmese star has more personality then all of them combined. She is always searching for me and lifting her head looking around, she is also very active.
When I got her home last night I gave her a little soak and poor baby she like dove into the water for a long drink, she was so thirsty. Then I noticed a bump on her upper beak or jaw, it's so cute, it sticks out like a little nose, lol. what a cute little face huh?
Well at first I was worried thinking she had a deformed mouth but then I Google Burmese baby images and they also have the little bump, and another tortoise keeper I know told me it's normal with Burmese hatchlings and will disappear with age.

My question to anyone who know about it is why do they have this pump and does this baby of mine look normal? The bump is hard like a little horn, could be good for digging. Maybe hatchlings have it for digging burrows?
What you say?
Also what do you think of the name for her? I was thinking Burma.
Thanks for reading.

Your baby's name, Burma, reminds me of my parents telling me about the old Burma Shave ads: each was a series of rhyming road signs. The only one I recall is:
"Don't take a curve
At 60 per;
We'd hate to lose
A customer!
BURMA SHAVE"

Very cute tort. The egg tooth will go away. That's why you might not have seen it on others. I'm not sure how long they usually have them after they have hatched, but I don't think its long.

Burmese are surprisingly very personable and mine never failed to come to me when I get close. She would even stretch her tiny paw to hi 5 me when I offer me hand.

I'm pretty sure all species of chelonians hatch with an egg tooth. I know of no exception. They are usually gone within 6 weeks of hatching.

That is a gorgeous baby. What state did it come from?
