Hello everyone. I am so very pleased to introduce my newest...a baby Leopard tortoise. Thanks to information I have learned from you, he is in a closed chamber and I follow the 80 degrees, 80 % humidity recommendations. The previous care giver said he was kept at 40 % humidity. Hopefully he won’t show signs of pyramiding. Anyway, he weighs 55 grams and is about three inches long. Any guesses as to his age?? After we get a few answers I will let you in on why I had this question. (For those of you thinking “why didn’t she just ask the seller how old it is?” ) Please see the pictures for reference.092FA742-AA43-473A-9791-88E141A54D9B.jpegC99C8E96-0F16-4FAF-B65A-E216065E57DA.jpeg4A2ECD56-C702-464D-9219-CC036B7A1056.jpeg3EB0547C-B144-47CE-BE51-B6F5722192D6.jpeg092FA742-AA43-473A-9791-88E141A54D9B.jpegC99C8E96-0F16-4FAF-B65A-E216065E57DA.jpeg4A2ECD56-C702-464D-9219-CC036B7A1056.jpeg3EB0547C-B144-47CE-BE51-B6F5722192D6.jpeg

Ok....no one wants to play! Oh well. Ok so my question is this... does he seem the proper size for 7 months? I saw this post on Instagram showing an 8 month old Leopard waaaay bigger...? F477A034-D3EC-4D45-A995-C3B2FBD52C01.pngF477A034-D3EC-4D45-A995-C3B2FBD52C01.png

Correct! What do you think of the second thread I posted with the Leopard that is supposedly 8 months and 240 grams? I saw that and it made me take a second look...
I think it's certainly possible. They do grow at different rates. I have a Redfoot that gained 400 grams in the first year. I would of guessed yours at about 3 months.

I think a lot has to do with how they’re started off as. I had mine in an open top for the first two months and only gained 3grams. It was until I was able to achieve the 80/80 closed chamber method that my baby started gaining weight and becoming more active.

Heres my (supposedly) 8 month old to give you a small reference. Hes a SA LEO. I saw supposedly because he came from tortoise town and i don't trust them. But uea, they all grow completely different.

Thanks for share the pictures of your beautiful tortoise! I find it interesting how they all grow at different rates.

I have a 9 month old Leopard who weighs 280 g. Your Leopard has been raised very dry and its growth has been stunted. When kept in higher humidity and fed well you may see quite a growth spurt from your little guy. My hatchlings who are 7 WEEKS old weigh 50g.

Oh my goodness! Yes the original keeper kept him at 40% humidity. I am hopeful he will start to thrive now. I just posted another thread about clear bubbles coming from his nostrils this morning. He is active and eating but those few bubbles concern me. Any tips?

I would suggest bumping up the heat a few degrees and increase your soaking times. He is most likely just reacting to the stress of moving. His immune system is responding to his new environment. What substrate are you using?

His substrate is a layer of coconut coir covered with orchid bark. I think bumping up the heat is a good idea. Thanks.
Thats what I use also. Remember the 80℉ is a minimum. Whenever I notice stress I will increase the heat just a little. I hope and believe he will be just fine.

Thank you so much for helping me and reassuring me. I have bumped the ambient heat to 88%. He is continuing to act normally so I believe you are correct, he is adjusting to the move and the change in climate.
