RE: What's going on?

In order to identify an issue, if there is one, would be to know a little more about your the enclosure.

Daytime temps

Nighttime temps

Also, what kind of substrate? If it ingested something, that would be a problem.

RE: What's going on?

Can you answer some questions for us?

Where are you?

What are your four temps? Warm side, cool side, basking spot and night?

What is this tortoises history? Where did it come from and how was it housed?

What are you using to heat and light it?

I'm living in Canada. Warm side about 80-90. Cool side 75-80. Basking spot 95-100 and UVB lite. Nite time around 80. Humid about 60-80. His about 5-6 mons. I brought him from breeder. ImageUploadedByTortForum1377196996.254527.jpg

Really I have no idea what happen to him.

RE: What's going on?

What sort of UV bulb are you using?

How many grams is he now?

How did the breeder start him? Dry or humid? Soaks or no soaks?

10.0 UV lite. He is 40-45 grams. I ask breeder. He said use dandelion greens to feed him. So yesterday I went to buy dandelion greens for him. That one is my last hope, but still not working. The breeder soak him once at other day. He said the humid is ok for him.

Your 10.0 lamp, is that the coil type or the long tube type?

That's a nice enclosure, however, it is too cold in there for such a little baby. You will need a 10" bell fixture for your Mercury Vapor Bulb, and you'll need to partially cover the habitat to keep the warm air from the light inside, and the cold air from the house outside. In the wire fixture most of your heat is rising upwards. With a bell fixture the heat is directed down to the substrate. When babies are too cool, they won't eat.

Your coil bulb is likely hurting his eyes. Turn it off and see if things improve over the next few days. They can go a few weeks with no UV with no ill effect.

Adding some heat might help too. I would not let one get to 75 with humidity.

40 grams is pretty small for 6 months old, which leads me to believe you might have some hatchling failure syndrome going on. I did not suspect this at first because you said the breeder soaked every other day. If thats true, it makes HFS less likely.

My best guess right now is your low end temps and that coil bulb. Try fixing those two things and see if things change. You can also try adding some carrot baby food to the soaking water for the next few soaks. Sometimes that will perk them up too.

It sounds to me like the temperatures might be the cause of what you are observing with your tortoise.

I would recommend keeping him at around 90 degrees at all times until he starts to recover. Things sound urgent though if he hasn't eaten much in the last 16 days. I would also recommend a vet visit ASAP.

Can you get like a small tote and make him a hospital enclosure. A smaller enclosure would be easyer for you to heat than the big table your using . So keeping him at 90
f. Just till he is better .

Also how do you keep him warm at night. Do you use anything or is it just room temperature?

Or are you running basking light 24/7? I only see basking light and black dome where I assume your coil uvb was.
