As Gary said we will need a plastron picture to determine sex, but your tortoise is a Russian tortoise, Testudo horsfieldii

Hi Andylee200:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

May we know your name and where you are?

Besides being a Russian tortoise, your new friend looks to me as if he is a captive bred animal, and not wild caught.

Either that or LTC. But yes, we would need to see the vent area in order to sex it. However, if my new "pet theory" is correct, then judging by the relative narrowness of your tortoise's face, then it's either a young of either sex, or else an adult female ... but I'm still testing that one out. :)
