Hi all. A friend has inherited this tortoise. I have Hermann Torts but I am not sure what species this is. He is about 8 or more inches long. We need to know so we know what to feed him. You can see tomato in one photo whi h I have told my friend not to feed him again for now!

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave. Congrats to your friend on inheriting such a gorgeous little tortoise, whatever he turns out to be. Has such a high dome shape. Some clearer pictures would be nice and some of the plastron (bottom shell). Once you get his species verified here, you and your friend can begin to get him on a correct diet and learn how to accommodate him to make him as comfortable as he can be!

It's definitely Testudo graeca, looks like Testudo graeca terrestris (Mesopotamian tortoise) and less possibly Testudo graeca cyrenaica (Cyrenaican tortoise). Sounds on the big side for a Mesopotamian unless it's a female. Try to get some better photos of the head. Where did it come from?

They take pretty much the same diet as your Hermmans, broad leafy greens like dandelion, bok choy, endive, escarole, clover, plantain, clover, radishes, etc. No fruit should be given
