I think that's a Hatchling Sulcata

That's what I thought at first too...but look at his carapace right over his neck...(nutchal) something...that's not Sulcata...
Interesting, I wonder what it is then.

It is a padloper. Probably Chersobius boulengeri. The Dwarf Padloper. Could possibly be the Nama Padloper Chersobius solus, especially if found along the very west of South Africa. Hard to tell as babies.
It was found in Gauteng, I first thought of the padloper but it’s quite round and not very flat, do you get ones that are more round?
