What kind of turtle is this?

I recently got this turtle, it was given to me from a friend.
It spends most of its time in water and sometimes ill look in the tank and it will be buried under the dirt a bit.
can anyone tell me what type it is, so i can figure out the proper food and care for it?

It's a map turtle. For me, who is not real familiar with several of the varieties, I would need a better picture. I would bet if you just Google it and compared pictures to what you have in your hand, you could quickly tell which one it is.

Looks like a map turtle to me. Type in map turtle pic on google to see if you can find one like it.

I like to see water turtles set up in outdoor ponds, but if that's not possible in your case, then a LARGE aquarium with a GOOD filter is a must.

It is a map turtle, it is a Graptemys geographica. If i am not mistaken
