Good evening,

Recently moved into a new house and seen the previous owners had grown a few bits.

Should the plants be edible for my Hermann’s tortoise, I will of course wait for them to weather a little in case there’s any harmful toxins on them.

When checking various apps, it has so far said it is ‘Brown mustard’ and ‘Opiate poppy’. The latter I’m guessing it is not ?.

Thanks in advance.

Craig

It could definitely be a mustard; or perhaps a very healthy turnip. But yes, it could also be an opium poppy; they are popular ornamental plants. I find the leaves of that poppy a little more gray than what’s in your picture but I’d wait a little longer to decide what it is. Mustard and turnips will eventually have a clusters of small yellow, white, or pink flowers with four-petals each. A poppy is going to have an obvious, big flower when the time comes.
