This is growing in Northern New Mexico in previously disturbed dirt. It smells fresh :)

I also think some kind of burr/hop clover or perhaps black medic. We’d have to wait for flowers to be sure which one but both are safe as part of a varied diet.

I vote for bur clover since the leaves are more serrated than pics show for black medic. They're in the same genus anyway

Thanks everyone. Really appreciated. I also posted on my regional fb page and they said the same thing - but lover / black medic. I’ll also keep a look out for flowers to confirm.
