Very worried my horse field tortoise has recently come to live with me after living with my mum. He's hardly eating anything in about 2 weeks, bar a small piece of tomato. He hasn't pooed either due to lack of food. I've tried him on several different foods such as grass, lettuce, tomato, cabbage, strawberries, plums and tortoise supplement and he won't touch a thing. He's 8 years old and has never hibernated, surely it's too late to hibernate in January anyway? Plus i've heard horse fields don't always hibernate. Alfie occasionally walks about but generally sleeps all day and is very lethargic!

Hi and welcome to the forum!
I'm no horsfield specialist, but an expert will come around soon. In the meantime tell us about his enclosure, what are the temperatures, what types of light do you use? Cold could be a reason for being lethargic and not eating.

They can go quite a long time without food, so don't panic just yet!

Hi and welcome where are you located and what sort of heat and uvb sources are you using?

Here is a link to a caresheet for Russians which will tell you all about diet, temps humidity and substrate etc
http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/russian-tortoise-care-sheet.80698/
and you'll find lots of other good info in the Russian tort section of 'Species' too.
The Beginners Mistake thread (link below) will also help you with the do's and dont's
I do hope we can help your tort find his appetite again
www.thetortoisetable.org.uk is also a good guide to tort safe plants for food and enclosures.

More info on his environment is needed to help you. His diet should be a variety of weeds and leaves. Pleas check out the care guides.
