I’m still learning about urates in tortoises. So my 4 tortoises haven’t produced urates for months, I’ve been told that that’s because they are hydrated. But do too much oxalates cause more urates and does it make them gritty?

interesting article
My tortoise had gritty urates for the entire time I owned him. After about 2 weeks of getting him he finally passed urine without grit but within a couple of weeks the grit was back, quite a few stones came out over time too, even though he was soaked daily and offered lots of wet foods. In his final days he passed quite a large stone (for his size) and as you know eventually had to be PTS with the kidney issues.
When he had an X-ray the vet said she saw some stones in his stomach (that he had eaten) but no large stones in the bladder at all.
