so long as they arent being aggressive, i would imagine it being okay. feed them separate to be sure one isnt bullying the other out of food, and keep an eye out for injuries. you see something bad, go ahead and divorce them, otherwise, its okay.

Tortoises should generally not be kept in pairs. This is especially true of Russians which are a very territorial, very scrappy species. They can be kept in groups in large enclosures, but sometimes even that doesn't work out as many members here will tell you. I can think of at least three members that have had to separate out a particularly aggressive FEMALE, from their groups.

Rather than aggression, this might mean that she is ready to breed, but maybe he's still too young yet?

Yvonne, I'm not sure how old he is, we purchased both of mine from petsmart.. It was a rescue to me, he may be to young.. He doesn't care for big mama, in fact he's never been aggressive forwards her. He's too sweet.:)
But big mama is all over him. My mom thinks she's "cuddly" haha. But I know from reading this website constantly that I believe she's being Territorial. But like I said, he has nothing to do with her.

2 of my females do this - it's dominance behavior. I would recommend keeping a very close eye on them - if the male starts hiding a lot, or starts spending a lot of time in a corner while the female parades about and hogs the food, it is probably time to separate them. They may need to be kept in separate enclosures permanently, unless they are outside in a large outdoor enclosure.

I know this is a hard lesson - I had to learn it, too *sigh*
