I would LOVE to have an article in the Tortoise Library, and I bet Josh would love one here, about 'tortoise gardening'- which I define as 'planting a garden in a tortoise pen that benefits the tortoises with food, shade, and interesting elements while it also provides beauty and possibly food to the humans, and offers benefits to wildlife as a bonus.'
A decent article would, in my opinion, help the keeper...
- Plan a simple layout, offering some examples
- Use general landscaping principles to help set things up so bigger stuff is in the back or sides, and smaller stuff up front or other techniques a typical keeper can use
- Have an interesting variety of colors and shapes for the outdoor tortoise season
- Find inexpensive, easy to grow plants that are either edible or neutral to tortoises that offer other benefits as well
- Incorporate a decent hide or two, as well as a good water dish
- Locate on-line resources to take them further, such as adjusting for growing seasons, adding water elements, etc.
If needed, I can help with formatting, editing, etc. regardless of where the author would prefer to post it.
Anyone interested?
