today Bob went to the vet. he started showing signs of RI. the vet was very nice and knew a lot about torts. ( she has some of her own) i was so worried because i had never been to this vet. she was very nice and i would recomend her to anyone.
back to Bob: he has upper respirtory infection, i was told that i caught it early and she gave me Baytril injections for 14 days. she said Bob looks very healthy and commended me for knowing what i was talking about. i could not take all the credit so i made sure she knew that i get a lot of my info here on TFO.
thanks everyone

Hope he will get better soon. Have any of us ever wonder the wild population of these torts ever get RI? and how do they get well on their own without the help from modern medicine?

That is the reason for the big die-off of desert tortoises in the Mojave desert. They are suffering from URDS (upper respiratory distress syndrome). They get sick and die.

There have been instance of the tissue dying off around the injection site when using Baytril, but unless you were injecting him in his foot, I wouldn't think losing a toe was related to the injection.

Your tortoise will be fine with a missing toe, and no, I doubt the claw will grow back. Is the foot raw where the toe used to be?

Is it scabbed or an open sore? If open I would put some meds on it.
