a very basic question but I can't seem to find answers.

is there a difference between an Ornate wood turtle, and an Ornate Box Turtle if so what is the difference.

I've assumed it was just different names for the same turtle but every time I start looking for answers I'm left more confused.

I thought the ornate wood turtle was a flatter water turtle and the Box, a rounded land Box turtle.

That's the problem with common names vs. scientific names.

The "ornate box turtle" is also commonly called the Western box turtle. Terrapene ornata ornata

The "ornate wood turtle" is more commonly called the Central American wood turtle. Rhinoclemmys pulcherrima manni
