Today in the mail arrived a breeding trio of Dalmatian hermanns. These hermanns are far from pretty but I got them for a steal due to their looks. The females are huge both are above 6 inches but the male is miniature he is around 4 inches. This is by far my ugliest tortoises but I am happy to have them. Here are some pics.... By the way the male has got a gnarly underbite! They may be ugly but I am proud to have them.

After reading that intro I was expecting trolls or some such. There's nothing wrong with these tortoises.

Those aren't ugly at all. I think they're awesome. Everyone wants the bumble bee fancy schmancy look. I like the odd guys out the dark not so normal or fancy flashy "high yellow lemon balm crush cream sickle orange lollipop" looking ones. I like those guys they're spectacular.

Thanks guys! I like them too, the reason I called the ugly was because they have got some pyramiding going on and the male had that crazy underbite. I guess I should rename the thread "The Unique Trio."

Here you can see the pyramiding a little better in these photos. It's nothing major just a little bumpy. ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1404916383.300465.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1404916394.782573.jpg

I think they look very nice, yeah they have a little pyramiding but it could be worse. Good luck with these cuties:)

I weighed the trio today and here are the results.

Male: 535g
Small Female: 1256g
Large Female: 1503g

It was difficult to get accurate results as the tortoises were squirming quite a bit. I am thinking the females are gravid.

Is there an ideal setup for a hermanns to lay their eggs? I am making my enclosures soon and I want it to be the perfect environment for them. I read that slopes were ideal for egg laying Testudos. Should I separate the male from the female?

Hi. I'm not able to help with those questions, lol, I'm trying to just keep a hatchling happy & healthy. But I also wanted to say that I think they are really nice looking. I love hermanns!

The big female is digging her nest right now. I am afraid to go near her and disturb her but I want to take pictures. Would it be ok if I went outdoors and took some pictures? Any advice for what to do when she lays the eggs? I wasn't expecting this to happen so soon.

Why do you say they are ugly?! They are lovely x

May I ask if you house your Hermanns together? If so;

(1) How many?
(2) What ages
(3) What size enclosure if INSIDE at any time

Many thanx
