Hi all...I'm Jen. We adopted 2 baby red-foot tortoises. Molly and Malcolm are 4 months old. They are from different clutches so breeding won't be a problem.
Their personalities are so fun. Since they are so tiny, they have an indoor enclosure but they also have an outdoor playground. We are in northern California so they don't care for the heat.
We are currently giving them a diet of red leaf lettuce, some collard greens, some melon, papaya, oyster mushrooms and we just added freeze dried bugs. The bugs are a huge hit. They also have several tortoise safe plants to munch on and hide under.

Hello, Jen! And welcome to TFO!

Your new babies are adorable!

But I need to let you know that the ramped water bowl is very dangerous for your babies. Torts don't have any way to bend in the middle, so an "up and over" maneuver is impossible for them. When encountering a steep wall like the sides of your dish, your babies will stand on their hind legs and try to pull themselves up. Most of the time they slip and fall, often landing on their backs. If they were trying to get out of the dish, they can fall backwards and be in the water. Often they are unable to right themselves, which is very dangerous for their lungs, plus when exhaustion sets in, they drown. It happens more often than you would expect.

Get a couple clay saucers like the ones that go under flower pots and sink them into the substrate so the edge is even with the substrate. They are safe and much easier for the babies to negotiate.
