I have a 22" arcadia t5 HO uvb light I plan to hang in a new enclosure.

Going to set it at 22" from substrate, and have it run from 11am to 4pm.
Question - is hight and run time ok or should it be lower and still run 12 hrs?

I will have an 18" t8 running from 7am to 730pm.

Enclosure is 60x33x28

Is it a 12%? If yes, then it should work well at that distance and in that time parameter. Only a UV meter can really confirm this though.

What is your reason for running two UV(B) linear florescent bulbs?

The T8 is not as powerful as the T5

So I fig I could run it 7am to 730 PM for some UV and light.

Run the stronger t5 from 11am to 4pm for better UV and to simulate peak sun hours.

Just my thinking.

Use a solarmeter 6.5 UV index meter to check your individual linear florescent bulbs just to be sure. The UV index rating of those T8 10.0's may still be strong enough to be useful. I personally would use cheaper 6500k linear florescent bulbs as ambient lighting instead of the T8's.

I agree with your thinking. This is how it goes in the wild. A 10.0 bulb makes very little UV, but it does make might balanced light. Good for daytime. The mid day UV spike from the HO tube coming on is what happens outside too, albeit more gradually. I've done it the way you are doing it in the past with great results.

Thanks Tom

My thoughts are to simulate/ recreate the outdoors in side the enclosure.

Plants , light, temps, humidity etc..

Should make for great development in the tortoise.

Got the solarmeter 6.5 and tested the light s reading 4.0 and that the top of.the meter so it like 17" from light.

Should I lower the light till I get a 5.5 ? 20181031_183751.jpg

I think a reading of 3.9-4.0 is great. I don't think you need to lower the fixture.

Thanks Tom,

that zoomed t8 in the back reads 2.3+- at the hight it is set at. So overall they have diff UV levels available three the day

And I changed top of substrate to orchid bark. The eco earth was getting in their eyes. 20181031_203520.jpg
