Digging with back feet is how they dig nests. That seems to suggest she is trying to lay eggs. Does she have deep substrate (10-12”) to dig in? Often they will refuse to lay eggs for months if they cannot dig a suitable nest...

Hi!!! And thank you for the response .
My tortoise is a full grown big butt sulcata.
She doesn’t need substrate anymore. She does have some in winter months but she lives outside and comes in to take a bath. Then it’s back out to her shed. She does have some orchid bark in there but throws it everywhere to get comfy. I totally agree that she is trying to lay something but it can’t be an egg as we don’t have a male tortoise ... any other suggestion would be greatly appreciated!! ??

Thank you!!! ?

she went back to being “fine” as of 6:30pm.
But I would like an X-ray just to see if something is up there. She eats a Lot of grass ..????

I had a box turtle who laid eggs for 5 years, and had never been with a male. So actually, it CAN be an egg

what!!!!????? REALLY?????!!!
Ok then off to the vet I go!!!!
If both you and your sis are telling me good stuff.. I LISTEN!
Just so ya don’t think I am mean ...
She seems to be doing fine now.. sleeping like a baby... breathing well too.. I will make apt or just take her in tomorrow . The one vet I was trying (that gave her a vitamin A shot in the butt area) is closed tomorrow.
I will have to see a Dr.Boren. And he is available sparaticly . They tell you on the phone... he only works Wednesday’s or MAY come in on a Friday...
NJ stinks for exotic vets!!!
they truly are either never around or don’t know what the heck they are doing.
But I know one thing.....
This time...NO SHOTS!!! (Thanks Tom and Yvonne and Maggie for that one).☺️

Yvonne (chefdenoel): I'm sorry, but my response was meant for the original poster of this thread. I had the redfoot with the swollen tail in mind when I was reading your post. This is why it's better to ask your question on your own thread instead of someone else's to avoid confusion.

There's no reason to go to the vet just because your tortoise is digging with her back feet. Wait until or if she show other symptoms.

Hey guys, I was told this is the place to ask questions. I recently got this girl in the last week. Any idea what's going on here or how to fix this? Looks like possibly egg binding. Not too many good exotic vets in my area so I'll start with you guys. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It very well could be a prolapse meaning the insides are coming out, please take it to a good reptile vet as quickly as possible.

It looks like it went down a lot. Strange seems like it goes back and forth

If it's an egg or bladder stone you don't want it to go back inside

I've never heard that, but I thought it only affected people/creatures at night, and tortoises sleep at night.

Is there a zoo nearby with a vet you could beg to see, as it’s an emergency)
