Back in August I found 7 hatchling red-footed tortoises unexpectedly in my indoor tortoise pen. The adults must have laid the eggs around February/March in their nesting box. I had been spraying the nest box with water in the off chance that there were eggs buried. That was the only care they received. I just walked in the tortoise pen tonight and saw an extra tortoise . . . upon searching the nest box I found 5 more! I found the 7th the next evening wondering around the large enclosure. Woohoo!

Wow, Melas:

You just joined and jumped in with both feet. Pancakes AND redfoots? Plus BABIES!!! How lucky was that?

What else do you have in your bag of tricks?

Haha! I've been keeping torts for a long time - just new to the forum itself. :)

I'm currently keeping 1.4.7 redfoots, 1.0 sulcata (pic below), 1.1 pancakes, 1.1 indian stars, 1.0 leopard (babcockii), and a lot of snakes, turtles, poison dart frogs, monitors, crocodillians etc . . .

The proud parents

Your sulcata is so smooth. Did you raise it from a baby?

And...OH MY LORD!!!! I LOVE that snapper.

Ah! Septuplets! How sweet and tiny they are, and they all look so healthy and perfectly formed.

Congratulations. :D

So they can survive without us huh? :p I'm glad to see that they are healthy and happy eating together like that. Wow you do have a lot of critters there don't you? :D

Where are you located? Is the snapper aggressive?

Pennsylvania. And ummm . . . yeah . . . VERY aggressive. :D I actually like that - keeps me honest. I KNOW if I put my hand in the wrong place I'll lose it! ;)

Neat stuff. The woma is a beauty but like everyone else, the big snapper is what is the most interesting.
Did you raise it from a little one?

No - it was pretty much that size when I got it. 18" scl

I figure he's probably over 30 years old or so. I had a lot of experience working with local snappers but never anything this size. It was a real trial by fire when I went to get him out of the box he was shipped in! I do presentations for schools, camps, churches, cub scouts, etc so the big stuff is what I'm attracted to for display. I love watching a group of 100 people jump simultaneously when he snaps! Haha!

It looks like you have a real population problem on your hands. Here is what you do -

Get a box, punch some holes in it, put the baby tortoises in the box, and mail it to Kristina Duda, 555 North Street, Cadillac, MI....

:D :D :D :D

Beautiful. I love the snapper as well, I like BIG turtles and tortoises, and I am impressed by your Sully. I do presentations at the elementary schools myself and I love the reactions from the kids, it is a blast.
