Went to check the trap, and well...no minnows, but a beautiful, and full, midland water snake. My favorite nerodia species. I knew I should've got the trap when it was full?. I was sure to be gentle, so the snake wouldn't regurgitate and because snakes are super fragile. It was sure to reward me for doing so by biting me on the thumb.

I would have been surprised if it DIDN'T bite you! I've been around that genus. They like to bite.

Though I've never known snakes to be super fragile though...
All water species are nippy and boy does it hurt. They're designed to hold on to slimy things like frogs, fish and tadpoles so it's pretty tough, but not that bad. They're basically just spine and ribs, that's why you have to be gentle and try not to fling them when they bite you?.

Yes, and they will barf (and waste food) if they go into fear shock.

Like right now I'm seeing a news story about a company putting candy corn into sausage.

What kind of idea is putting marzipan into sausages????

*barf*

Beautiful
At first glance it looked like a tiny Copperhead
They can easily be mistaken for one, but copperhead have a broader head and those orangish eyes, and those pits. And when they're hatchlings, or juvenile at this snakes stage, they have a green tail that they use as a lure.
