Ive had my sulcata for about a month now and he has gained just over 2 pounds by freely grazing in his yard. He was 36.6 lbs. and now he weighs 38.8 lbs.
Here is a couple pics. His fence has 5/4 X 6 treated decking boards across the bottom. I am planning on putting at least 2 more above to make it 3 boards high. So far he hasnt tried to hard to bust out but i want to be on the safe side.

Looks nice. I too would add another board. To keep him in and to keep people from seeing him and wanting to steal him.

Oh ya. I was so excited about my new sulcata I forgot to mention we also have a female redfoot about 7" long. We have had her for about 4 months now and she is doing really well. Someone had once told me that redfoots were shy but she is very freindly and outgoing. Here is a pic of diamond. My daughter named her. In fact my 10 year old daughter fell in love with her so i gave it to her.

Good point. I dont want him stolen.
Snap! I should have posted this under "general tortoise topics" instead of the "new to forum". Oh well.

You have a very nice looking sulcata. Does he try to go through your fence at all? Wondering because so many folks complained about that.

He will walk the fence line and occassionally try to get through. He gives a push or two and then gives up and goes about his business. But as he is settling in he seems to spend less time trying to escape and more time relaxing and eating. But i do plan on adding two more boards to make it higher because he will get bigger and i may also end up getting a larger one in future.

I have noticed if they cant see out they dont try to ecape near as much

I think he is stunning. :D I wish I was more handy and could build a fence. Good Job!

Thanks for complimenting the torts mike. The sulcata has a little pyramidding. The guy i bought him from said he was perfect. Not exactly. But he looked pretty good overall. Much better than many others ive seen. Hes pretty big but still has a lot of growing left to do. Im excited to see what he will look like in 5 to 10 years.

Thanks vishnu2. I was glad to be done with the fence. But it was kinda fun. It turned into a family affair. The kids helped dig some post holes and stretch the fence.
