Sulcatas are for experts?

I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve never had a hatchling, but just from photos, I can see how one can totally lose their heart to those tiny creatures.

For me, the issue has always been that I understand what they're going to require as they grow.
A very, very sturdy walled outdoor enclosure that must be inspected and repaired regularly and a dedicated yard about twice the property I currently own.
Many new keepers have no realistic plan for what to do as one grows into a powerful giant.
No plan other than a larger "tortoise table" or another terrarium.
Even worse, many get a pair of Sulcata.
So, while these are not "expert" tortoises, they are not for everyone. They're for the few. And are probably the very worst impulse pet purchase you can make.
I can't begin to tell you how many I've been offered because the owner saw the light....
I'm a very long term tortoise keeper. And keeping Sulcata is still something I can't do.
