Hi guys! So after deciding on keeping this baby Hermann's tortoise, I noticed that its eyes have become a bit swollen and puffy --- can anyone tell me if I am worrying for nothing, or if this does look like something serious?

- Zoomed tortoise table enclosure
- coco coir substrate
- ambient temperature 31 degrees C (37 degrees C in hotspot)
- ambient humidity is about 31% (although humid hides exist with humid substrate beneath drier top layer)
- he/she is about 4 months old

Light is a 125W mercury bulb (attached screenshot for viewing)

That light is way too strong for a baby tortoise. If you want to use the Mercury Vapor light, get one that also provides UVB, and you don't need anything bigger than 100 watt. Also, make sure it's hanging higher than about 14" from the top of the baby's shell.

Rather than the MVB, I like to use the tube type fluorescent UVB light with a radiant heat panel for heat. This way is much kinder to baby tortoises.
