Haven't been posting here for some time. Lots of personal stuff the past couple of years plus big changes with my job. And then dealing with Photobucket.
Although I've cut way back on my turtle collection, I still keep my favorites.
Like my red-footed tortoises, red-cheek muds are one of the first 'exotic' species I kept and thus hold a special place in my heart.
This is one of my adult males named Bub...
Bub's head has darkened a lot since he was a kid, but still...he is really nice looking!
The color in these photos is muted--its actually much more vibrant.
This was Bub a couple of years ago...
Here is my number 2 male. He is also nice...
Bub and Peggy...
Peggy nesting last year.
This is Phoebe nesting on different occasions. She is REALLY pretty!
Here are some results from this past year.
This past year (2018) Peggy and Phoebe produced a total of 19 eggs of which we hatched 14 neonates.
These are great turtles for the indoor aquarium but it is important to provide as much space as possible along with SHALLOW water.
For more info see the Sticky Notes about them above. The book, Turtles of Mexico by Legler and Vogt is a good source of information but if you don't want to lay out the $50.00 or $60.00 for it you can also do a search for the PDF-- Kinosternon scorpioides (Linnaeus 1766)- Scorpion Mud Turtle By James Berry and John Iverson
