Sorry that this thread is about poo, I have probably asked befor to be honest!

Does your tortoise eat its own poo?

Crush does, and im sorry i love him to bloody bits, but today took it too far... He ate his poo. got it all over his face and hands! Its beyond a joke now!

Can i clean him with a toothbrush and water?
Or is a sponge better?

What can I do to try and stop this?
Any ideas?

Thanks xx

Just think of it as "recycling." What nutrients Crush didn't get from his food the first time around, he's getting the second time around. You can scrub his face and legs with a soft bristle toothbrish. Put him in his soak and just before you're ready to get him out, give him a scrubbing.

Most tortoises do this.

Also you can try giving him a little ben a bac it might be bacteria he is looking for if he is a young tort or has been on any type of antibiotics. But as Yvonne said most torts do this, both in captivity and in the wild.

I know...it's gross, so the only thing you can do ...besides the "wash up" is be on the look-out and scoop it up before he gets it, and NEVER kiss your tort, because you never kinow. lol :D

What is ben a bac?
What is the UK version?

I do try to scoop the poop lol, but I have school!

Lol I kiss my finger and place the kiss on his head!
Since I saw him eat him poop I have never kissed him since... Its GROSS!

Might make an exception though at christmas...give him a bath and then kiss him under the misstle toe... and he can open his presents.

Oh I have NUTROBOL!
Good stuff, but its really stinky lol!
I apply it on his food around 3 times a week.

For us here in the UK its a calcium supplement not a ''stop eating poo powder'' lol...
How could this help?

Like I said, I don't think its the same thing. Bene-Bac contains beneficial bacteria to help re-populate the tortoise's gut. Be honest, I don't know why I mentioned the Nutrobol.

Are you thinking if you change the frequency in which you feed the tortoise the frequency of the poop would change? I think not.

I think she was thinking if she fed more often the tortoise might not be so inclined to eat his poo.

Just keep it picked up. That's better than feeding twice a day.
